Beautiful Jim Key appears in Boston.

The performing horse appears at the Boston Food Fair at the Mechanics Building. Owned and trained by William Key, a former slave and Civil War veteran, the horse is advertised as being able to read, write, and compute. The horse is subsequently studied by Harvard professors, who conclude that the act is not a hoax.
